Tails?Pax and Zoe both have their natural tails. The AKC standard, however, is for tails to be docked soon after birth. We have yet to find a good reason for this practice, other than the inertia of convention. Our dogs run freely through fields and woods, and they have been around cattle and occasionally clumsy people. Their tails have never been a problem. That said, the practice of docking a tail inflicts little harm to the puppy, and tails can be docked upon request. Our personal belief is that tail docking is an outdated and odd practice that will soon be discarded.
